FACC: As a leader, how do you encourage others in your company (CRC Logistics) to communicate the core values?

CC: Our leadership teams from Sales, to Customer Service, to Accounting all row in the same direction. We are tasked by the carrier partners we represent to grow and we all know that growth comes from keeping our customers while selling new ones. Unishippers, which is what we do business as is a professional salesforce representing multiple Less Than Truckload transportation brands to commercial SMB’s (Small and Medium Businesses). We are also one of the largest resellers for UPS® in the U.S. Most of my direct employees are sales professionals who are customer-facing. We train our people to represent the following benefits of a customer in working with Unishippers. That moniker is simple...we refer to it as W-I-S-E-S-T:

  • Worry-Free
  • Individual Solutions
  • Smart Choices
  • Easy Shipping
  • Saves Money
  • Trusted Relationships

Our customer service people who support our customers are all located in Melbourne, FL. Their mission is to support our customers with responsive, honest, and consistent communication because we train all of our people to understand that we are an extension of our customers’ supply chains and we take that privilege seriously.

FACC: What led you to become an Executive in the transportation industry? Do you have any advice for those interested in entering a similar industry?

CC: Transportation was an industry that I fell into by accident. I started working for a company called Airborne Express at one of their sales offices in Brooklyn while I was in college. I left the industry when I graduated but got pulled back into it roughly a year later and haven’t looked back. The industry has been good to me and it is never boring. As the world continues to get smaller and more countries to become interconnected the industry has continued to evolve. Technology which is the space we largely play in now has become instrumental to both shippers and carriers and it’s exciting to see how consumers respond to those changes. For anyone interested in the industry, I would focus on just how big it is. The global transportation market size is $5.1 Trillion Dollars as of 2018! So there is plenty of room for people to join and succeed in this space.

FACC: If you can share, are there any secrets most people do not know about shipping in today’s day and age of ubiquitous online ordering?

CC: I think most consumers are pretty savvy these days especially with all the online purchasing that is done. The average consumer knows what they expect; i.e. Next Day or Second Day delivery. But I think many Small and Medium-Sized shippers who are the front-end purchasers of shipping services whether it’s overnight express, international, ground, or Less Than Truckload do need some consultation and help. They don’t always know what questions to ask and carriers are not always forthcoming with discounts and services shippers might need. So that is where a company like Unishippers can add value to a Small and Medium-Sized shipper. We know what questions to ask of the shipper and based on our buying power and carrier programs, we can customize a shipping program that will save those shippers both money and time.

FACC: As a recent member of the FACC-NY, how do you hope to open doors in our network?

CC: I hope to not only offer advice and service to other members, but I do hope that my professional network can be of service to other members that help their businesses flourish as well.
