COVID-19 Resources for Open Attractions in the US

J-1 & YE | October 15, 2020

Dear Exchange Visitors,

Hope you are all doing well! Since the Covid-19 situation is still evolving around the country, you may not have had the opportunity to travel or to experience American culture as much as you would like. For your reference, see our virtual WFH resources that we pulled together this summer to explore different attractions from the comfort of your own home.

Your safety and well-being are our primary focuses, but we also understand that virtual tours do not compare to the real deal. If you are able and feel comfortable, we recommend that you check out some of the following attractions that have reopened (entirely or partially) in recent months. As a reminder, always follow local and state COVID-19 guidelines.

Museums and Art:

Guggenheim – Open now at 25% capacity with reservations-based timed ticketing.

MoMa – Open now at 25% capacity with reservations-based timed ticketing.

California Academy of Sciences – Public opening October 23 with reservations-based ticketing and a few exhibit closures.

Museum of Fine Arts – Open with reservations-based timed ticketing

Minneapolis Institute of Art – Open with reservations-based timed ticketing.

Smithsonian – Open with reservations-based timed ticketing and modified hours.

National Parks:

According to the National Park Service, “most of the 421 units of the National Park System are available to visitors,”. They recommend consulting directly with individual parks to learn more about the status of their facilities.

Grand Canyon National Park – Access to the park is restricted to the South entrance only. The Canyon Rim Trail and the Greenway Trail are open via the South Rim.

Joshua Tree – Park Ranger programs and some museums closed. Everything else has reopened.

Hawai’i Volcanoes – Most of the park has reopened, including overnight camping, with just a few exceptions.

Theme Parks:

Disneyland (California) – Phased reopening of the Downtown Disney District. The large parks remain closed.

Disneyworld (Florida) – Open but modified using a reservation system. Health checks in place.

Six Flags – Open but modified using a reservation system. Health checks in place.

Universal parks – Open but with limited capacity. Health checks in place.
