"Meet the Executive" with Alexis de Bretteville

On January 23, Alexis de Bretteville, CEO of the Americas, Michael Page International, offered expert insight and valuable information to members and guests of the French-American Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. de Bretteville drew on his own experience as a leader in the field of global recruitment to address and discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with managing an international career. Following an overview of Michael Page International, Mr. de Bretteville explored the current trends that face the “new expatriate.” He discussed the main reasons behind the motivation to work as an expatriate, the impact of new technologies, and the differences between global employment opportunities in Europe and in the U.S. He also addressed the positive and negative factors that must be weighed when considering an expatriate position. While moving abroad can boost one’s career and offer the richness of a new experience and culture, there are risks involved. These include a potentially challenging adjustment, language and education barriers, and possible security threats.

Offering practical advice, Mr. de Bretteville also discussed the difficulties that sometimes face expatriates upon their return home and highlighted the importance of a mentor and an active professional network. After a dynamic question-and-answer session, participants gathered for networking and a cocktail reception.

The FACC would like to thank Schiff Hardin LLP for graciously sponsoring and hosting the event.
