On March 5th, David Jones, Global CEO of Euro RSCG and Managing Director of Havas, addressed Corporate and Councilor members of the French-American Chamber of Commerce. Discussing the challenges and opportunities currently surrounding the “New World of Global Marketing”, Mr. Jones explored the roles of digital media, traditional advertising and brand imaging in shaping today's marketing trends.
Mr. Jones began by emphasizing the power of the individual - Time Magazine’s 2007 “Person of the Year” - in today’s digital world. Indeed, consumers control digital media and have come to expect more from corporations and the products they advertise. Mr. Jones suggested that corporate conduct and brand image have become increasingly linked; consumers today expect companies to “give back.” This is evidenced by, for instance, the new world of ‘green’ marketing. Environmental awareness has been shown to transform brands and publications. Similar to the role of government, business is often viewed by consumers as a driver for social change. It is important for corporations to market products in a way that demonstrates sustainability and social awareness. The digitally-powered consumer expects this.
Drawing on his own experience, Mr. Jones concluded by offering advice on successful marketing in a fast-paced digital world: deliver ideas that engage people and that are genuine, brilliant, and insightful.
The Aquavit luncheon was concluded with a dynamic question-and-answer session.
