HR Event: Sexual Harassment in France & The USA

We had a great turn out at our first HR Series event of the year entitled Sexual Harassment in France and the United States.

Participants included employers and employees from the two cultures, contributing to the animation of the discussion through the use of the real-time Klaxoon platform. They defined sexual harassment at work as inappropriate, challenging and a form of aggression.

The panelists and moderator helped to explore the different perspectives on the subject through thought provoking questions about treatment of the subject in the media, input from a U.S. Human Resources perspective and the legal structure supporting them in the labor code of the two countries. The evening renewed awareness to a topic which has been the center of discussion recently in growing social movements.

Takeaways from the evening include:

  • Sexual Harassment is a business imperative. Twenty percent of profitability revolves around employee engagement and a positive environment.
  • The need for immediate action. Don't remain silent. Spot the issue. Recognize the behavior and intervene.
  • Harassment can take on the form of sexual harassment, power harassment and moral harassment which can all make the victim feel pressure based on calculated decisions or actions.
  • Legally, 95% of cases don't go to court but that does not make their validity any lesser, nor the need for HR to address the concerns.

As always, many thanks to this event's delicious sponsors Le Cru Bourgeois, Trois Petit Cochons and Miss Madeleine for providing food and refreshments for the evening.

We hope you'll join us for future HR events. Consult our agenda to see more.

Don't forget to join our Human Resources online forum to continue the discussion:
