AIdapt: Disrupt or Be Disrupted with Stephan Mallard at Microsoft

On April 16th, FACC NYC was delighted to host Digital Evangelist Stephane Mallard from Blu Age Digital at the fabulous venue of Microsoft NYC in Times Square. We had over 120 members and guests join us for the evening, a very successful turnout. Guests included seasoned experts in the field and those with a peaked curiosity around the subject.

The event opened with the introduction by Pascal Belaud, Technical Sales Director for Data Platform, Advanced Analytics and Artificial Intelligence at Microsoft. Pascal's rich experience of 20 years with Microsoft includes 17 years in France with a focus on work pertaining to banks and financial institutions. Pascal shared the real-world implications of AI that Microsoft is developing today, including technology for the blind.

Speaker Stephane Mallard was introduced by FACC NYC Managing Director Martin Bischoff. Stephane took the stage to address the shift from programming machines to training them to reach goals. According to Stephane, every industry will have to use artificial intelligence.

Takeaways from the evening include:

  • Algorithmic AI: Artificial Intelligence must be nourished by the input of data, which is then manipulated by an algorithm. This algorithm can find randomness and patterns that are far more sophisticated than human reasoning. For example, algorithms are now recognizing certain types of cancer.
  • The Ethical implications of AI: This subject was a question among several participants after closing remarks. Due the delicate nature of every country having different data governance laws and fundamental beliefs about privacy protection and data use, it's impossible to regulate the industry as a whole with one uniform set of standards.
  • Disruption: In the age of disruption, you have to think that you are already being disrupted, you have to ask yourself the relevance of your business

We would like to Thank Microsoft for hosting us as well as our delicious partners Les Trois Petits Cochons, Atelier Sucré and Maiden + Liberty.
